The downtown district of Homewood will host its Holiday Open House on Thursday, Nov. 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event marks the official start of the local holiday season, prompting shop owners to extend their hours and introduce special promotions. Attendees will have access to complimentary hors d'oeuvres, holiday drinks, and live carolers. A free trolley will operate a loop through the downtown area to transport guests between storefronts.

Santa Claus is scheduled to make a personal appearance during the evening. The visit follows a similar tradition at Nadeau Furniture, where the holiday figure has previously interacted with customers. This year, the open house serves as both a commercial kickoff and a social gathering for the community. Shop owners describe the event as a time when typical errands expand into longer visits with friends and neighbors.

Lynette Minson of Tracy-Barrett Interiors compares the first week of November to the Super Bowl. She stated, "This first week of November is our Super Bowl. I love to help people fall in love with their spaces. We need more beauty in this world." Minson is currently preparing her store for the influx of guests. The event allows her to connect with clients and introduce them to new interior design options before the peak shopping rush.

Patti Lovoy at Alabama Goods anticipates a strong turnout from out-of-town visitors. She noted that relatives frequently visit the town during the holidays and express enthusiasm for local products. Lovoy said, "We always have people from all over visiting relatives, and they come into the store and adore all the Alabama products we have. And they always say they have to get something from Alabama." The store aims to provide unique gifts for travelers who wish to bring a piece of the region home.

Kelly Seibels at Seibels Cottages plans to welcome guests with live music and refreshments. She characterized the event as the biggest street party of the year. Seibels said, "The open house kicks off the season, and we get to meet an incredible number of new people who enjoy downtown Homewood." The gathering provides an opportunity for the business to connect with potential new clients who may not have visited the store previously.

The open house draws both permanent residents and temporary visitors. It functions as a homecoming for family members returning for the holidays. The event creates a social atmosphere that extends beyond standard retail hours. Neighbors use the occasion to reconnect after summer breaks. The combination of music, food, and shopping creates a communal experience in the downtown area.

The event is scheduled for early November, before the peak of winter weather. The timing allows for outdoor activities such as walking the downtown loop and enjoying the trolley. Shop windows will feature holiday decorations and garland. The open house serves as a precursor to the main holiday shopping period. It establishes the festive tone for the remainder of the year in Homewood.
