Anthropic disclosed two categories of risk in its S-1 prospectus filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission: the company's long-term cost commitments to suppliers, and the concentration of advanced semiconductor manufacturing in Taiwan.

The filing runs 94 pages and addresses risks to the company's business and to the wider AI economy. It also discusses what the company calls existential risks to humanity and society, according to the document.

The first risk concerns contracts Anthropic signs for software, hardware, data center capacity, and GPU clusters. These agreements lock in prices over multi-year terms. The company's concern is that chip and infrastructure technology is advancing faster than those contracts run. A newer GPU that performs comparable work at lower cost could reach the market while Anthropic is still paying for older hardware under a fixed rate. Competitors operating without the same commitments could then deliver more computing at lower cost.

The second risk concerns where the chips themselves are produced. The majority of advanced semiconductor manufacturing is concentrated in Taiwan, according to the filing. The company identifies earthquake, Chinese military action, and blockade scenarios as events that could interrupt supply. A disruption at that single point would affect the supply of processors used across AI development and deployment.

Anthropic's filing places these two items alongside broader disclosures about the company's operations. The prospectus is a standard document companies submit to the SEC when they register securities for sale. Companies use the filing to list material risks investors should weigh before buying shares.

The pricing risk follows a pattern across the technology sector. Firms sign multi-year commitments for compute capacity while the underlying hardware cycles through generations on a faster schedule. When a contract fixes a rate for a chip generation that has been superseded, the buyer continues paying the original price for hardware that is no longer the newest available.

The Taiwan exposure is shared across the industry. Advanced process nodes used for AI accelerators are produced at facilities on the island, and the filing identifies that geographic concentration as a structural vulnerability rather than a company-specific one.

Anthropic filed its S-1 with the SEC on Oct. 30, 2026.
