The Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars will wear their new 'Rivalries' uniforms for the first time on Sunday. Both teams are hosting opponents at 1 p.m. ET in Week 8. Detroit faces the Minnesota Vikings, while Jacksonville hosts the Indianapolis Colts. The NFL requires the home team to wear the special kit in these designated matchups.
The Lions collaborated with Nike on a design called 'Defend the Den.' The outfit consists of white jerseys and white pants. The helmet is painted Honolulu blue. The team stated that the carbon fiber texture on the helmet's decal is meant to symbolize elite performance. This visual element connects to Detroit's history in the automotive and racing industries.
The Jaguars based their design on a tribute to Jacksonville and Duval County. Their helmet is teal, marking the first time the franchise has used that color on a helmet. The word 'Duval' appears on the back bumper, and the number 904 is displayed on the front. The jersey is white, and the pants are black. The team noted that the number font draws inspiration from the city's historic music venues and southern rock culture.
The Lions and Jaguars are not the first teams to use the program this season. All four teams in the AFC South and NFC North have revealed their designs. However, only the Colts and Packers have worn their uniforms in games so far. Indianapolis used its kit in a Week 3 win over the Houston Texans. Green Bay debuted its version in a 31-7 victory over the Chicago Bears in Week 5. Teams have gone 2-0 in 'Rivalries' uniforms this year.
The remaining schedule includes the Jaguars visiting the Tennessee Titans on Nov. 15. The Colts will visit the Texans on Nov. 19. The Lions are scheduled to play at the Vikings on Dec. 20. The Packers will play at the Bears on Dec. 25. Each team wears the special uniform once during the season. The design remains in the team's rotation for the following three years.
The 'Rivalries' program launched in 2025 with the AFC East and NFC West. The AFC West and NFC East will participate in 2027. The AFC North and NFC South will follow in 2028. By then, all 32 NFL teams will have unveiled their unique designs.
