Elon Musk has given $446 million to groups backing Republican candidates in the upcoming midterms.
The funds make him the largest individual donor identified in the current election cycle. A new campaign finance analysis broke down where the money went. The breakdown shows three organizations received the vast majority of the total.
Musk founded America PAC to support Republican causes. That group received about $216 million. The Senate Leadership Fund, which helps Republican Senate candidates, took in $168 million. The Congressional Leadership Fund, which works to elect Republicans to the House, received $30 million. These three groups account for roughly $414 million of the total reported amount. Musk sent the remaining funds to other political organizations.
Musk first entered this sphere of political giving in recent years. His involvement has drawn attention because of his ties to electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, and federal contracts. The spending surge happens as political groups ramp up advertising and voter outreach. These outside organizations can finance ads and other activities under federal campaign finance rules. They often play a major role in federal races.
Election Day is set for November 3. Voters will decide the balance of power in Congress. Both parties are competing for control of the chambers. Musk’s contributions arrive in the final stretch before that date.
