Utah enters Saturday's matchup against Cincinnati as the final Big 12 team without a loss, seeking to extend its 7-0 record against a host that is 5-2. The game is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. MDT at Nippert Stadium and will air on ESPN. This contest marks the second all-time meeting between the programs, with the Utes holding a 1-0 series advantage after a 45-14 victory in Salt Lake City during the 2025 season.
Cincinnati arrives with momentum after snapping a two-game losing streak with a win over then-No. 8 Texas Tech. The Bearcats will look to secure a second consecutive top-10 victory on the season. In that recent win, Cincinnati limited the opposing offense to 172 passing yards while rushing for 255. The weather forecast for Saturday indicates highs in the 60s throughout the game, a factor that may influence the offensive approach of both teams.
Utah quarterback Devon Dampier is the focal point of the visiting team's strategy. In the Utes' last game against Houston, Dampier rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns, his highest rushing total since joining the program. Despite this surge, Dampier threw two interceptions in that contest. His performance against Colorado earlier in the season saw him gain negative eight rushing yards, suggesting the offensive line and play design are still adjusting to maximize his dual-threat capability.
Cincinnati coach Scott Satterfield praised the visiting squad, noting the seamless transition of coaching staff and the quality of the personnel. "The quarterback is outstanding, the other quarterback they play as well is really, really good," Satterfield said. He added that the Utes are a "solid team" and "certainly worthy of a top-10 ranking." Satterfield also highlighted the strength of Utah's running back, describing him as strong, powerful, and very fast.
Utah head coach Morgan Scalley acknowledged the external attention the team is receiving. "Pressure’s a privilege," Scalley said. "We believe in what we do. We believe in the process and we got to keep it going though." Scalley cautioned his players against complacency, stating, "Everyone’s going to pat us on the backs now and tell us how awesome we are. Beware the soothing sounds of praise."
The Bearcats have identified the Utes' running game as a primary defensive target. Running back Cole Tabb enters the game fresh off a 173-yard performance. Utah's defense must contain Tabb while generating pressure on Cincinnati quarterback JC French IV to force turnovers. The outcome will determine whether Utah maintains its perfect record before hosting BYU next week, while Cincinnati aims to sustain its winning streak before traveling to Houston.
The series history is limited, with only two meetings on record. The first occurred in 2025 when Brendan Sorsby led the team to a decisive 45-14 win. With both teams carrying recent high-profile victories, the stakes are high for a top-10 ranking and a strong finish to the fall schedule. The Utes have won their last seven games, including a 21-13 result over Houston, while the Bearcats have won two of their last three.
