Eight point seven million Instagram followers received a direct call to action from Jennifer Lawrence on Tuesday. The Oscar winner posted a photograph showing herself performing the three-finger salute associated with her role as Katniss Everdeen. Her caption read: "Midterms [baby]. Don't forget who burns with us. Go vote." She included a link to Vote.org, a site where users can locate their nearest polling station.

Lawrence did not endorse specific candidates in the post. However, the phrase "burns with us" holds specific weight for fans of the franchise. It originates from the 2014 film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. In that scene, Katniss addresses President Snow after a bombing in her district. She states: "You can torture us and bomb us and burn our districts to the ground. But do you see that? Fire is catching. And if we burn, you burn with us!"

The actress has a history of political engagement with Donald Trump. During his first administration, she wrote an op-ed declaring that the only people feeling safe in America were white men. That stance appeared to shift last year. On the press tour for Die My Love, Lawrence told The New York Times she was unsure if she should speak out on politics anymore. She argued that celebrities do not make a difference in who people vote for. "We are so divided," she said, adding that she did not want to add fuel to a fire.

In that same interview, Lawrence described her position as a "complicated recalibration." She wanted to protect her craft so audiences could still get lost in her work. She stated that unless she could offer peace or a solution, she did not want to make the problem worse. Since that conversation, she has largely avoided political talk in interviews. Tuesday's post marked a return to public encouragement for voting.

The timing of the message aligns with her return to the franchise. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping opens in theaters on Nov. 20. Lionsgate is distributing the prequel. Lawrence returns to the part after an 11 year hiatus. She recently discussed the reunion on the Call Her Daddy podcast. She described the experience as "unbelievable." The original crew reunited along with co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson.

Lawrence noted that the emotional weight of the reunion was visible on set. "Josh and I didn't walk to the bathroom without our arms around each other. It was so beautiful," she said. She also joked about Harrelson's arrival at her hotel. He came through the window uninvited. "It wouldn't be the same if he listened to boundaries or used a door," she added.

The post has generated discussion about the parallels between the fictional Capitol and current politics. Many followers inferred a message directed at the administration, even though Lawrence did not explicitly name Trump. The symbolic resonance of the quote connects the fictional rebellion to the real world midterm vote.
