Karim López stepped onto the court for the first time in his professional career on Wednesday night in Portland. The Mexican forward played two minutes and 33 seconds for the Memphis Grizzlies during a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. This marked his official entry into the National Basketball Association after waiting for his team's opening games to pass.

López had been sidelined for the first four games of the season due to a right knee contusion. Reports indicated the injury prevented him from taking the floor earlier. The Memphis coaching staff listed him as available for the matchup at the Moda Center, allowing him to finally suit up for his new team. He secured the spot after being selected in the first round of the draft and subsequently traded from Detroit to Memphis.

His on-court production was limited by the short playing time. López grabbed one rebound during his brief appearance. He attempted one shot from beyond the three-point line but did not score. The Grizzlies dominated the contest, defeating the Trail Blazers by a final score of 124 to 103. The comfortable victory gave the coaching staff little reason to keep the rookie on the floor for extended stretches.

López becomes the seventh Mexican player to debut in the NBA. The first was Horacio Llamas, who began his career with the Phoenix Suns in 1997. Since then, the list has grown to include Eduardo Nájera, Gustavo Ayón, Jorge Gutiérrez, Juan Toscano-Anderson, and Jaime Jaquez Jr. Each of these players broke barriers for Mexican basketball in the United States.

The Grizzlies prepare for their next contest on Saturday, October 31. Memphis will host the Sacramento Kings at the FedExForum. Team officials expect López to receive a larger share of the minutes in that game. His role is set to expand as he adjusts to the professional level and continues to recover from his knee issue.

The debut took place in front of the home crowd in Portland. While the Grizzlies won the game comfortably, the focus for the Mexican community shifted to López's presence on the floor. His time on the court, though brief, concludes the initial wait period following his knee injury. The next opportunity to see him in action is scheduled for the weekend at home.
