Former Vice President Mike Pence’s press secretary Marc Lotter projects that Republicans will retain control of the U.S. Senate in the upcoming midterms, while ceding the House of Representatives. With Election Day less than a week away, Lotter shared these expectations during a call to the Hammer and Nigel Show on 93.1 WIBC. He described the House loss as a probable outcome, citing the historical tendency for the party in power to lose seats in midterm cycles. Republicans shed approximately 40 seats in 2018, whereas Democrats lost nine in 2022.

Lotter identified the open Senate seat in Michigan as the most consequential race for determining the chamber's balance. In that contest, Republican Mike Rogers faces Democrat Abdul El-Sayed. According to Lotter, Democrats require five net seat gains to seize majority control. A single Republican victory in Michigan would prevent them from reaching that threshold. A Marist poll conducted between Oct. 15 and 18 among likely voters showed El-Sayed leading Rogers by two points, with 50 percent support against 48 percent. Lotter expects Rogers to win and also anticipates that Sen. Susan Collins will retain her seat in Maine.

The former campaign adviser noted a shift in Republican voter behavior that mirrors his experience on the 2016 Trump campaign. He observed that many conservative voters are returning to the polls after earlier hesitation. "We are now seeing in poll after poll after poll, Republicans are coming home," Lotter said. He attributed part of this dynamic to GOP supporters no longer answering pollsters, which may have narrowed the gap shown in earlier surveys.

Lotter argued that holding the Senate is essential for the Republican Party to confirm judicial nominations and act as a legislative check against a potential Democratic House. He predicted that if Democrats gain House control, they would move quickly toward impeachment proceedings. He defended senior Republican senators who occasionally break with party leadership, including Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Collins. Lotter stated he preferred a representative who aligned with the party 90 percent of the time over an opponent who would never align with the group.

He urged frustrated Republican voters to participate in the election rather than abstain. Lotter emphasized the long-term impact of Senate elections, noting that electing a senator can secure a seat for 18 to 24 years. He framed this duration as a key incentive for engagement in the current cycle.

Indiana voters are advised to verify their registration status and locate their designated vote center before Tuesday. The state’s official website, IndianaVoters.in.gov, provides these resources for the upcoming election.
