Donald Trump will campaign in Iowa and Kansas on Sunday. These are his final appearances before Tuesday’s midterm elections.

He chose to add these trips after initially canceling them. The goal is to provide a last-minute push for Republican candidates. Both Senate seats are critical for the party to keep control of the chamber.

Current polls show tight races in both states. In Iowa, Republican Ashley Hinson trails Democrat Josh Turek by three points in a Marist poll. In Kansas, Democrat Adam Hamilton leads incumbent Republican Roger Marshall for the first time.

House Speaker Mike Johnson dismissed the polling data. He claimed the surveys underrepresent Republican support. “I’ve seen the voters on the ground. I’m telling you, the polls are wrong. They’re inaccurate. They’re underrepresenting Republicans,” he said.

Historical trends favor Republicans in these regions. Iowa last sent a Democrat to the Senate in 2008. Kansas has not done so since the early 1930s. Trump previously won Iowa three times and Kansas twice.

The rallies are scheduled for specific times at local venues. The event in Dubuque, Iowa, begins at 3 p.m. Eastern time at the Five Flags Center. The Kansas stop at Salina regional airport starts at 8 p.m. Eastern time. A Quinnipiac poll places the president’s approval rating at 34%.
