Gov. Greg Abbott holds a three-point lead over Rep. Gina Hinojosa in the Texas gubernatorial race, according to a new survey released Oct. 29. The poll, conducted by the Barbara Jordan Public Policy Research and Survey Center at Texas Southern University, found that 50% of likely voters intend to support Abbott, while 47% favor Hinojosa.

The survey interviewed 2,000 likely Texas voters between Oct. 21 and 25. It carries a margin of error of plus or minus 2.19 percentage points. Among the respondents, 40% identified as Republicans, 31% as Democrats, and 24% as independents. One percent of participants said they were unsure of their vote.

Favorability ratings mirror the vote intent gap. Abbott received a favorable rating from 48% of those surveyed, compared to 45% for Hinojosa. The data shows distinct demographic splits in the electorate. Most White voters and men support Abbott, while most Latino and Black voters back Hinojosa. Women prefer Hinojosa, and she leads among younger voters, whereas Abbott maintains a substantial advantage with older voters. Independents broke for Hinojosa by 11 points.

Early voting in Texas ends Friday. Polls will open at 7 a.m. on Tuesday for Election Day.
