Fire Rages at Carlyle Street Warehouse

A large fire engulfed the LookSharp distribution center on Carlyle Street in Spreydon on Wednesday morning. Emergency services arrived at the commercial warehouse at approximately 11:30 a.m. to address the blaze. LookSharp operates as a retailer for festive costumes, decorations, and party supplies.

Police and fire officials reported a substantial volume of black smoke rising from the structure. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson noted that the smoke was blowing toward Moorhouse Avenue. They advised residents in that direction to avoid the area if possible and to keep doors and windows closed.

By late morning, seven Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews were active at the scene. Police cordoned off several streets to allow emergency vehicles access and to manage traffic flow. The closures included intersections at Gasson and Carlyle Streets, as well as Brisbane and Byron Streets. Authorities also restricted access to parts of Gasson, Carlyle, Brisbane, and Byron Streets.

Police asked the public to expect delays while crews worked to contain the flames. A reporter at the scene observed that officers directed people in the smoke drift zone to move indoors or leave the vicinity. Workers at several neighboring businesses were evacuated from their premises.

A police spokesperson stated that no injuries had been reported as of the initial update. For residents with health concerns regarding the smoke, officials suggested calling Healthline 24/7 on 0800 611 116 for free advice or contacting their family doctor.

The fire remains the primary focus for emergency responders in the Spreydon district. Local traffic patterns have been altered due to the ongoing road closures and active firefighting efforts at the LookSharp facility.
