Phoenix Fire Department technical rescue members pulled eight people from trapped vehicles on October 31. The rescues took place near the intersection of 40th Street and Camelback Road in Phoenix.
Firefighters posted a video to X showing the operation. The clip captures two cars sitting in the middle of the flooded street. About eight rescuers worked in the water and on the vehicles to free the occupants.
The department confirmed the incident on its social media account. A public information officer remained on site to provide updates as the situation developed.
Similar flooding forced rescues in neighboring cities. Scottsdale Fire Department crews pulled one person from a car near Hayden Road and McCormick Parkway. Officials said teams were checking a second vehicle that they had not yet been able to access.
In the Terravita area north of Scottsdale, rescue teams attempted to help an older adult stuck in a vehicle. Authorities stated the person was surrounded by several centimeters of water inside the car.
Tempe fire crews also responded to flood-related incidents in their jurisdiction. The separate calls highlighted the widespread nature of the water trapping drivers in multiple metro Phoenix locations.
