PV Labs in Burlington, Ontario, will create 250 new jobs to build a night vision system for Apache helicopters. The company announced the expansion on Oct. 28, confirming that Lockheed Martin will invest in the project. This funding allows the local firm to scale its workforce from approximately 55 employees to more than 300 over the coming years.

The new Pilot Night Vision Sensor will help pilots fly safely in low light and poor weather conditions. The system is designed for Apache helicopters manufactured by Boeing. A spokesperson for Canada’s Defence Investment Agency stated that the investment follows a policy requiring defence contractors to support the Canadian economy when they secure government contracts. Lockheed Martin agreed to provide 26 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System launchers, along with munitions, spare parts, and training, to the Government of Canada in January 2026.

Neither PV Labs nor Lockheed Martin disclosed the dollar value of the investment by the deadline. The company described the project as an opportunity to contribute to advanced defence sensor development and manufacturing capabilities in Canada. PV Labs specializes in aerospace and defence technology, focusing on optronics systems and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance solutions.

The growth will not occur at the company’s current location at 1074 Cooke Blvd. CEO Mark Chamberlain said the expansion requires a different facility. He stated in an email that the company is reviewing facility solutions within the Hamilton and Burlington region. The current property and the adjacent site at 1062 Cooke Blvd. are approved for residential redevelopment, which includes two mixed-use buildings of 30 and 32 storeys.

Ben Marklew, the company’s vice-president of global sales and business development, said the partnership supports aircrews using the Apache helicopter worldwide. He described the collaboration with Lockheed Martin as a milestone for the team. Marklew noted that the work will support skilled Canadian jobs and strengthen the national defence and aerospace supply chain.

The investment creates a multi-year roadmap to design and develop the new night vision system. PV Labs expects to maintain its focus on advanced sensor technology while managing the transition to a new facility that can accommodate the larger staff.
