Jesus de Miguel, a 30-year-old forward for CD Tenerife, has died. The Spanish second-tier club confirmed the news on Monday, one day after De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest during a match against Andorra. The incident occurred in the final minutes of play.

The Segunda Division game was abandoned seven minutes into stoppage time. De Miguel collapsed after colliding with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono. Owono had rushed out of his penalty area to clear a long ball and struck De Miguel in the chest with his knee. Medical staff treated the forward on the pitch for more than five minutes before an ambulance transported him to the hospital.

Spanish police have opened proceedings regarding a possible involuntary manslaughter charge. A source from the National Police confirmed the inquiry. Judicial authorities in the Canary Islands noted that such investigations are routine under Spanish law when a death is deemed non-natural.

Owono, an international player for Equatorial Guinea, received a straight red card. He deactivated his Instagram account on Tuesday morning following online abuse. Andorra President Gerard Pique expressed his condolences on social media, writing, "I'm sorry with all my heart. Rest in peace Jesus."

The Spanish Football Federation postponed all matches scheduled for Tuesday. This included games in the Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina. The federation also canceled the official presentation for Spain’s Under-21 international against Japan as a mark of respect. UEFA announced that a period of silence would be observed before all European games this week.

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said the organization was heartbroken by the death. "We have searched for words and found only silence," Ceferin stated. Major Spanish clubs, including Barcelona and Real Madrid, issued statements of condolence. Andorra requested to postpone their next fixture against RCD Mallorca, which was set for Sunday.

De Miguel was born in Madrid in 1996. He joined Tenerife from Castellon before the 2025-26 season began. In his previous season, he scored 11 goals for the club. The Tenerife club statement described the team as racked with pain and unable to believe the news.
