Amar Abdu Richardson, 23, was found guilty by a Cabell County jury on Thursday. The verdict covers the March 2025 shooting that killed Rahmel Lundy, 33, in the 500 block of Seventh Avenue in Huntington, West Virginia.
The jury returned convictions for second-degree murder, use or presentment of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Prosecutors initially charged Richardson with first-degree murder, but the final verdict reduced the charge level while maintaining the firearms counts.
Authorities say the shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. on March 20, 2025. Police and U.S. Marshals arrested Richardson the following Monday in the 2000 block of 11th Avenue. Both men lived in Huntington at the time of the incident.
Huntington Mayor Patrick Farrell praised the speed of the arrest immediately after Richardson was taken into custody. Farrell said in a statement that the response sent a clear message about accountability for violence in the city. He added that the city remains committed to public safety and keeping neighborhoods secure.
The case concluded with the jury’s decision to find Richardson guilty on all three counts. The verdict resolves the criminal charges stemming from the fatal exchange on Seventh Avenue.
