SLR Food Distribution Inc. announced a voluntary recall of Wise Wife Brand Ground Cinnamon on Thursday, citing potential contamination with elevated levels of lead. The action impacts retail and grocery stores in 14 states, including New York, Texas, and Pennsylvania.

The recall covers specific product batches identified by a UPC of 0688474302754. The affected items are packaged in 110-gram clear plastic containers with black screw-top caps. Each container displays a best-before date of April 25, 2027. These products were available for purchase between September 8, 2025, and June 28, 2026.

The company issued the alert to mitigate health risks before the holiday cooking season. According to the recall notice, lead exposure can affect multiple bodily systems. The severity of the impact depends on factors such as dosage, duration of exposure, and the consumer's age and weight.

Health officials note that short-term exposure to low levels of lead often produces no immediate symptoms. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the contaminated cinnamon. Despite the lack of confirmed cases, the agency advises caution due to the cumulative nature of lead in the body.

Consumers holding the product are instructed not to use it. They should dispose of the cinnamon or return it to the original place of purchase to receive a full refund. The recall specifically targets the 3.88-ounce ground cinnamon variety sold in the designated states.

The 14 states involved in the distribution chain include Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin. SLR Food Distribution manages the logistics of the product removal and refund processing for affected retailers.
